Remember the first time that you applied for a passport. There was the trip to the office, standing in line to fill out forms, waiting in another line to get the picture, and then yet another line to make sure that everything was done properly to be issued to the clerk. All of that waiting in line is no longer needed when ordering a United States passport online.

One of the most frustrating things that anyone can go through when they are in a rush is being forced to wait in a line. The Internet has pretty much done away with that and the only time that adults will really be forced to wait in line is if they are getting their passports for the first time. Instead, they can get online and have everything done with a few clicks of the mouse.

Finding the right online service requires some research, but they can be found readily enough. Look for services that are registered with the BBB and that have no complaints filed against them. They should also have a toll free number to call in and find out about your order. Before using them, make sure you can get a live person and it is not some voice mail system.

The forms are actually pretty easy to fill out and many of them can be completed before printing out. The only thing that a first time applicant needs to be aware of is that the application cannot be officially signed until they are actually in front of the agent at the passport office. If it is signed beforehand, they will void it and everything will have to be done again.

The forms that will need to be filled out will have to be printed. The paper used when printing these must not be shiny or have only other finish or watermark other than plain printer paper. The paper must be 8 x11 and only white paper with no lines or holes must be used.

Pictures are also going to have to be done and are pretty easy to get, it is just important to make sure that they are the right kind. Passport photos must be 2 inches by 2 inches and should be in color. Most photo shops will have the ability to take these, or there is of course the quick Internet search to find the spot closest that can handle this task for you.

Once the forms are filled out and the photos taken, all the materials must be sent to the service provider. This is normally done by using some type of traceable mail service or private carrier. FedEx and UPS are the two that are preferred by many of the providers that will be found online. This gives them a means to keep track of the documents both when they are being sent to them along with the return trip.

It may not seem like this is a time saving process, but the actual time saved comes in the overall turnaround of the actual American passports. By ordering a American passport online, the passport can be received in less than a week. Head over to the local office or use standard government services, and the mailbox will not have a passport in it for at least a month and a half.
