24 Hour US Passport – Getting A US Passport Is Easy

Typically speaking, acquiring a passport is a time consuming process. First time applicants are generally advised to give themselves around two months to get a passport. Expedited passports are available at an additional fee, but even a rush passport can take several weeks to process. Many people do not know this, but it is possible to get a 24 hour passport in dire circumstances.

First, it is important to discuss when it is appropriate to try to obtain a passport in 24 hours, and also, whether or not it is practically possible. While it is theoretically possible to obtain a passport in 24 hours, there are a lot of variables that make this feat exceedingly difficult. Again, this type of request should be limited to extremely dire circumstances.

In most cases, the State Department will only offer 24 hour service to someone that is having a family emergency overseas and it is necessary for them to travel right away. Things like an immediate family member falling deathly ill, someone dying, an accident or something of that nature. When this situation does arise, they do have steps in place to try and accommodate people.

In addition to government offices, there are also private agencies that can get passports quicker than the standard channels. However, keep in mind that they are going to charge a hefty fee in order to make this happen. There fee structures far exceed that of the government offices, so expect the wallet to take a pretty big hit for expedited services like this.

If it is only a passport renewal that is needed, the process can go a bit smoother than someone who is looking to get a new passport. Because the bulk of the set up work has already been done, the renewal process does not take nearly as much effort. In fact, many times the renewal process can be handled online and through the mail with no need to actually walk into a passport office.

The people that have to get a passport from scratch and need it this fast are going to have their work cut out for them. The problem in many cases is that they don’t have all of the documents that they need on hand. Without a drivers license, birth certificate or proof of citizenship, they will not be able to get the passport.

Something else to consider is that it is always best to make sure that an appointment has been made or that the applicant is the first person in line when the office opens. If they allow appointments, get one because it will guarantee the place in line. It is never good to just hope to show up and get right in. We all know how government waiting rooms can be.

Getting a 24 hour U S A Passport can be difficult, but it is not an impossible task. As long as the situation meets the government requirements, they will do everything that they can in order to make this happen for everyone. This is food for thought though in that even if you never plan on leaving the country, it is always smart move to get a new passport because you just never know when it will be needed.

    Hi Peter!

This is a great post you have!
I agree when you say that a 24 hour passport service is difficult but not impossible. This is true especially in cases when people are really in dire need to renew their passports in time to go home or to go out of US. Moreover, I would also like to share that paying a bit higher amount for expediting services would be a strain int he budget but may also help travelers a lot. It well depends upon what the traveler requires or needs and of course he or she should check the legitimacy of the private agency.

Again, great post! Keep it up!
