Infact the city of Nottingham has a reasonable number of fantastic tourist attractions and it makes it an excellent place for a family vacation and the following article takes a close look at the city and a small selection of visitor attractions in, and close to, Nottingham, as well as some establishments offering Nottingham bed and breakfast accommodation .

The city of Nottingham is located in the county of Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands, England. As well as the legend of Robin Hood and his merry men, Nottingham is also strongly associated with the lace making industry especially during the Industrial Revolution when it gained a worldwide reputation.

The Lace Market, Nottingham

At one time the center of the worldwide lace industry, at the peak of the British Empire, the Lace Market in Nottingham is, today, a protected heritage area. It  has numerous fantastic examples of industrial architecture of the 19th Century. The market wasn’t like a normal market area, instead of having stalls and stall holders, the market featured a number of warehouses and salesrooms displaying and selling lace. Following the collapse in the lace industry the market suffered terribly but, nowadays, the vast majority of the old warehouses have been renovated for residential use and other purposes such as photographic studios and the likes. The Lace Market, Nottingham is a popular visitor attraction.

Shire Hall & Galleries of Justice

Near to the Lace Market can be found the Galleries of Justice and Shire Hall. Shire Hall is a Georgian-built civic building featuring Neoclassical columns, pilasters and dome. The facade has, if you look at it closely, a spelling error Goal rather than Gaol. The Hall has 2 superbly preserved courtrooms from the Victorian period and bath house, a women’s prison, old cells, an Edwardian police station and a prisoner’s exercise yard.

Nottingham is a fantastic place to have a city break. You will find plenty to see and do within the city and a huge selection of visitor attractions nearby. Nearby places to visit include; Hardwick Hall, Wollaton Hall and Newstead Abbey.

As all all England bed & breakfast, accommodation in Nottingham is usually of superb quality at a fair rate and many people choose to stay in Nottingham for only part of their break and then somewhere else for the remainder.
