For basic short-term international coverage, visitor care insurance offers plenty of options. With maximum benefits ranging from $25,000 to $100,000, and the deductibles from zero to $100, there are nine visitors care insurance plan options for applicants to choose from.

The duration of the visitors insurance plan can be as short as five days, and as long as 12 months. If additional coverage is needed, the plan allows extension for another 12 months; however, this will be under a new policy.

Some features are common to all visitors insurance policies. These include emergency medical evacuation, accident death benefit in case of common carrier travel, repatriation of remains (in case of death), and coverage in the home country for in-between trips home.

Common coverage in visitors insurance policies include medical treatment of conditions or sickness suffered or first detected during the plan period. Also, some situations such as pre-existing illnesses, wellness visits, and pregnancy-related treatment, are usually exempt from coverage.

It is often easier to use a provider within the preferred provider network because the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) may be able to directly work with the policy. This means that no cash is required during billing. However, it is not required to seek medical care within the preferred provider network.
